Fasten belt & collar and make sure the suit
is zipped up. This will prevent the zipper and other fasteners from catching
and snagging either the embroidery or suit fabric.
Wash in cold
or lukewarm water on the ‘gentle’ cycle.
If possible,
wash your suit before wearing it the first time. Using the ‘gentle’
cycle, the initial wash should be with 1-1 ½ cups of vinegar. This will
help ‘set’ the fabric dyes and prevent ‘bleeding’. Laundering will
also help loosen up the suit so that it’s more comfortable to wear.
Laundering should be done using a BLEACH-FREE, LOW-SUDSING detergent.
If the suit
is caked with clay or mud, do not let it dry before washing! Place the
suit in a plastic bag or container to retain the moisture and rinse the
suit off when you get home. After rinsing, go through the washing
procedure – this should prevent the clay or mud from staining the driver’s
suit.
If the suit
is soiled with grease, oil, etc., treat it with standard stain remover (Oxi-Clean, Simple Green, Castrol
Super Clean, etc.). If the stain doesn’t come out the first time, DO
NOT DRY the suit. Instead, treat it again with the stain remover and
re-wash.
If the stain
doesn’t come out after two consecutive washings, take it to the dry
cleaners.
When dry
cleaning, make sure the cleaner uses the PERCHLOROETHYLENE cleaning
process.
It is best
to let the suit hang dry after washing, but DO NOT HANG THE SUIT IN DIRECT
SUNLIGHT because ultraviolet rays will fade the colors. If you must use
the dryer, set the heat to the lowest setting and remove the suit from the
dryer while it is still damp. DO NOT LET THE SUIT ‘BAKE’ IN THE DRYER!
Neither
washing nor dry cleaning will diminish the fire-retardant properties of
your Design 500 Racewear driver’s suit.
